Why it matters
Most areas in England have hard, heavily treated water. The result shows up every day in your home.
Hard water leaves white chalky deposits on your kettle, taps, shower head and appliances โ reducing their lifespan and efficiency. London and the South East are among the hardest water areas in the UK.
Chlorine is added to your water supply to keep it safe on its journey through miles of pipes. It does its job, but the residual taste and odour is off-putting โ especially in your morning brew.
Properties built before 1970 may still have lead pipes. Even with modern treatment, trace heavy metals can leach into your water. A quality carbon filter is your last line of defence.

Our planet
The UK uses over 7.7 billion plastic water bottles every year. Less than half are recycled. Every Elephant Homecare filter is one household choosing tap water over plastic โ for good.
Each subscriber avoids roughly 4 plastic bottles a day โ that's 1,460 every year they stay with us.
Plastic water bottles are among the most common items found in ocean clean-ups worldwide.
Your filter pays for itself within weeks. Less than ยฃ2 a week versus buying bottles every single day.
Every bottle you don't buy is one less sitting in landfill or floating in the ocean for centuries.
An elephant drinks up to 200 litres of water every single day. They know better than anyone how precious clean water is. At Elephant Homecare, we're on a mission to help every home drink cleaner water straight from the tap โ eliminating the need for plastic bottles, reducing waste, and protecting the planet one filter at a time.
Every subscription you start removes hundreds of bottles from circulation. Every cartridge we send is recyclable. Every customer is part of something bigger.
๐ Our oceans are in crisis
Plastic water bottles are one of the most destructive single-use items on Earth. Every time someone chooses filtered tap water over bottled water, the ocean wins. Here's the reality we're fighting against โ and what Elephant Homecare is doing about it.
Globally, one million single-use plastic bottles are purchased every 60 seconds. The vast majority are used once and thrown away โ with less than half ever making it to a recycling facility. The rest ends up in landfill, rivers, and eventually the ocean.
UK coastlines carry approximately 150 plastic bottles per mile of beach. Britain contributes an estimated 1.7 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, with 16 million plastic bottles going unrecycled every single day.
Over 100,000 marine mammals and 1 million seabirds are killed by plastic pollution every year. More than 700 marine species are now on the edge of extinction, including Hawaiian monk seals and loggerhead sea turtles โ killed not by predators, but by our waste.
Scientists have now detected microplastics in human blood, lungs, placentas and reproductive organs. These particles come from plastic breaking down over centuries. Early research links microplastic exposure to inflammation, hormonal disruption and potential immune effects. This isn't just an ocean problem โ it's a human health crisis.
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation projects that without significant intervention, the ocean will contain more plastic by weight than fish by 2050. Global plastic pollution is on course to triple by 2040. We have a window to act โ and it's closing.
What we're doing about it
We're not a charity. But every decision we make is driven by the belief that a home service company can be a force for good โ starting with the water coming out of your tap.
Every filter we fit is a household choosing filtered tap water for life. One customer. 1,460 bottles a year. Gone. Multiply that by every subscriber and the impact is enormous.
Our filter cartridges are designed to be recycled, not landfilled. We're working on a cartridge return programme so nothing we send you ends up in the ocean either.
Every cartridge we post arrives in recyclable cardboard packaging. No unnecessary plastic wrap, no foam inserts, no wasteful filler. Just what you need, nothing more.
We keep a running total of every bottle our customers have collectively stopped buying. That number grows every day โ and we publish it proudly on this page for all to see.
Our installation teams are already in your area for window cleaning. No extra journeys, no extra vans, no extra emissions. We bolt onto existing routes โ clean and efficient.
An elephant never forgets โ and neither do we. Every customer who joins us is part of a community that's actively making the world cleaner. We will always be honest about our impact and accountable for our promises.
"Clean water shouldn't come in a plastic bottle. It should come from your tap."โ Elephant Homecare, Pure Water Mission
